Will MBK Entertainment continue to fight for the registration of the name "T-ARA"?

On August 8, it was reported that MBK Entertainment's request to register the name of "T-ARA" had been rejected by the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

If the application of MBK Entertainment is approved, the members will not be able to promote under the name of T-ara for at least 10 years. They would also have to pay royalties to the agency if they interpreted any of the songs they released under the name of T-ara, even if they promote them under a different name.

Recall that in January 2018 MBK Entertainment had submitted an application for the name of the group, the same month that the agency's contracts with Hyomin, Eunjung, Qri and Jiyeon ended. The members of T-ara presented documentation indicating the basis of their rejection of MBK Entertainment's request also in January.

Since leaving the agency, T-ara members have been focusing on their individual activities. It remains to be seen if the Korean Intellectual Property Office will maintain its position on the issue of the registration of the group name in future applications of MBK Entertainment.
