EXO's Baekhyun turned to his Instagram on January 2 to apologize for the comments he said in reference to the depression during an autograph signing event that took place a few days earlier.
He wrote: "Hi, this is Baekhyun. I am writing this post because I want to personally apologize for my comments on the autograph signing event on December 30th. These days, I have honestly been in a state where I felt very afraid and I have been hypersensitive to the subject of depression. And then, when I was talking to that fan for a while, I really worried and suddenly I felt scared. In an autograph signing that should be full of joy, I really felt the seriousness of what she, a fan I wanted to make happy, confided in me, and I think I felt very hurried because of the idea that 'I could not go back to talk to this fan after we parted from this place today. ' I wanted to say at least one more word of comfort, and I wanted to quickly do anything for her [during the event] thinking that my words could become a source of strength for her, since she had said that I liked it. Even after I finished talking to that fan, I think I kept reflecting on this until the end of the autograph signing. And then, there was something that I carelessly said while encouraging her and other fans that came, that there are good people and, of course, EXO, at her side when they feel depressed or going through difficult times. I hastened to say what I said when I do not have the ability to organize and express my intentions in a short period of time. Why did I choose those phrases, those words, in that moment ?, I regret [when] I really just wanted to comfort her and encourage her ... ".
"I am afraid even as I write this, to make a mistake again in this publication. However, I want to sincerely apologize. I apologize to that fan, and I want to apologize to everyone who was hurt by this issue. I will become a 'Baekhyun' who is more cautious about his words and actions from now on. "
Recall that the singer was criticized for his choice of words regarding depression during the event on two separate occasions, after a fan up the conversation he had with him and others shared a clipped part of what he said later during his final statement and this was taken out of context.
